Food Literacy Coordinator
(One-Year Contract)

Position Type: One-Year Contract

Hours: 12.5 hours per month (Food Connect) and an additional 24 hours per month when Community Kitchen (CCC) series are running (4 times per year)

Salary: $28-$32 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)

Work Location: In person / Toronto, ON

Contract Duration: 1 year (starting early/mid-April 2026)

About Jessie’s – The June Callwood Centre for Young Women

Jessie’s – The June Callwood Centre for Young Women is a multi-service resource Centre supporting pregnant young women, young parents, and their children. Our work addresses the social determinants of health through a feminist, pro-choice framework that upholds a woman’s right to make informed decisions about her sexual health and pregnancy.

Key Responsibilities

Program Delivery

•Facilitate quarterly Community Kitchen (CCC) series (4 sessions per series)

•Facilitate monthly Food Connect events (excluding August and December)

•Lead engaging, hands-on cooking and food literacy sessions for youth and young families

•Deliver nutrition education using dietitian-supported curriculum

•Develop and adapt culturally responsive recipes and learning materials

•Maintain food safety, kitchen sanitation, and proper ingredient handling

2. Program Coordination & Food Preparation

•Plan menus aligned with participant needs and program goals

•Purchase groceries within established budget

•Prepare and organize ingredients and materials for each session

•Maintain kitchen inventory and equipment

•Meet with internal staff prior to Food Connect sessions to confirm attendance, dietary restrictions, and logistics

•Coordinate volunteers or guest facilitators as required

3. Outreach, Evaluation & Reporting

•Support program promotion through posters, social media, and community outreach

•Track attendance and participation

•Collect participant feedback and complete summary reports with recommendations

Qualifications:

•Post-secondary education in food and nutrition, community development, social services, public health, culinary arts, or a related field — or an equivalent combination of education and lived/professional experience

•3-5 years’ experience in the non-profit, social services, or community-based programming sector

•Experience facilitating group programs for youth and/or young families

•Strong group facilitation and hands-on teaching skills

•Knowledge of food literacy principles and basic nutrition concepts

•Experience working with marginalized communities

•Trauma-informed, non-judgmental approach

•Strong organizational and time-management skills

•Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities

•Experience with grocery purchasing and budget management

•Ability to lift and transport groceries and kitchen supplies (up to 30 lbs)

•Strong written and verbal communication skills

•Food Handler Certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start date)

Experience:

•Experience in community-based food programs

•Understanding of food insecurity and systemic barriers to food access

•Fluency in Spanish

•Access to a reliable vehicle (asset, as grocery purchasing and occasional transport of supplies are required)
