Jessie's Centre for Teenagers provides over 125 speaking engagements each year through the community. Our teen parents and our staff speak to middle schools, high schools, to community organizations and to many health care professionals and counsellors about the challenges of teen pregnancy and parenting. "Every Parent Deserves a Break" -
Respite Care for Young Parents
Jessie's Centre has recently expanded its Respite Care Program that it offers in partnership with the "Young Parents No Fixed Address" network. In the past year alone, we almost doubled the number of days that we provide safe overnight childcare for parents under 25 so they can take care of important life issues knowing their children are cared for in loving homes. Respite Care provides free overnight childcare for 3-5 days for any parent under 25 so they can take care of special needs like:
- Arrange for Medical Care for Themselves
- Look for Housing or Move to a New Home
- Study for Exams or Catch Up on Homework
- Catch up on Sleep
- Have Personal Time with a Partner or Friends
- Do Laundry / Clean the House
- Take Time to Rejuvenate
- Celebrate a Birthday
- Take a Stress Break

Jessie's Centre DVD Now Available
In 2005 Jessie's Centre for Teenagers completed a 12 minute video profiling three teen parent families. This video presents a single mother, a couple and a mother with extended family support. The families come from different racial and cultural groups and are parenting children of different ages. Information is presented about other pregnancy options to facilitate informed decision-making. This tape includes encouragement for adolescents to use community support agencies when they experience pregnancy.
