Jessie's Centre for Teenagers mandate
Jessie's Centre for Teenagers offers a broad range of services to pregnant and parenting teens, their children, their families, and the communities in which they live. We are committed to identifying, challenging, and eliminating the economic, social, political, and individual disadvantages that compromise the development, health, and well being of teens and their children.
Jessie's Centre for Teenagers will:
- Provide supportive counselling, information, advocacy, and referral services to pregnant and parenting teens, their children, and their families with attention to health, parenting, educational, employment, housing, financial, and emotional needs.
- Provide practical assistance to pregnant and parenting teens and their children.
- Promote, support, and provide opportunities for pregnant and parenting teens to exercise individual choice, experience personal empowerment, resolve problems successfully, and move toward adult independence.
- Promote, support, and provide opportunities for healthy growth and development for the children of parenting teens involved with Jessie's Centre for Teenagers.
- Maintain a welcoming, nonviolent environment and demonstrate an awareness of and respect for the diversity found in our communities.
- Challenge individual and systemic discrimination against children and youth and promote social, political, and economic changes that will contribute to the elimination of such discrimination.
The services provided by Jessie's Centre for Teenagers, a not-for-profit registered charity, are available to pregnant and parenting teens, their children, and their families residing in or around the City of Toronto.
